What kind of paint should I use to paint my center console? I'm gonna be painting it silver. Also, can I paint the little plastic part that goes around the outside of the dash? Like the part that sticks out towards you that casts a shadow over the gauges.

engine paint works great, sounds funny but you don't have to worry about melt and with enamel you don't need clear coat. But watch out with the silver it is very fragile, armor all will take the matalic luster clean off. But for a paint the look like metal the only thing better is Testors Model Masters and for that you need to know what your doing, It needs polished and needs special clear coat. I would have used it but for big sections like that it too much of a pain in the ass.

So go down to pep boys and get some engine paint, test it on something (not from your car) and see what you think.

I used general purpose primer, dupli-color high temp engine paint and dupli-color high temp engine paint clear coat.
These are the steps I did to paint mine... I'm in the middle of the process. I just finished primering it for the 2nd time and it looks great! This process may seem redundant but I want the best possible shine out of my center console.

1)Wetsand using 400 grit.

3)Wetsand
4)Primer
5)Wetsand
6)Paint
7)Paint
8)Clearcoat
9)Clearcoat
